Yar’Adua Critically Ill, Flown To Germany!
BY Sunny Ofili
DATE : Tuesday, 06 March 2007
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Katsina state is critically ill and has been evacuated to Germany for medical attention. The news was first reported a few hours ago by Elendureports.com. The Times of Nigeria can now confirm the report.

A high ranking government official in Abuja confirmed this development to The Times of Nigeria few minutes ago.

Another government source told The Times of Nigeria that the Presidential aspirant “collapsed a few hours ago and has been flown abroad for treatment.”

The source said it is “very likely he was flown to Germany.”

The Presidency and inner caucus of the ruling party are said to be in an emergency meeting on how to handle the situation.

Can someone with one kidney play squash?

quote:
2007: It’s do or die – Obasanjo
From MOSHOOD ADEBAYO (Abeokuta)
Sunday, February 11, 2007

President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital yesterday sounded tough on the forthcoming general elections describing it as a do or die affair for both himself and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Obasanjo who spoke while addressing elders and other stakeholders vowed not to hand over to any “criminal.”
He said the elections offer Nigeria the opportunity to arrive at the Promised Land and the way to getting there, in his view, is by keeping out the criminals from the electoral process.

“We want those who are going to succeed us to continue where we stop. In 1979, Nigeria was self-sufficient in rice production, in poultry. Those that we handed over to lifted ban on those things, and we became importers of them and we could not produce them again.

“So, you should elect those who will not bring us backward again. I read that somebody said I was campaigning. I will campaign because this election is a do or die affair for PDP,” the President asserted, asking rhetorically, “Why should we have criminals as leaders? If we are targeting 2020 as the year Nigeria will become one of the 20 leading economies in the world, we must not pray for rogues and criminals as our leaders in the next election.”

The President insisted that he would do all within his powers to ensure that criminals were barred from taking the reins of power come next April. According to him, he would not under any circumstance hand over to those he described as criminals as the forthcoming elections could make or mar the country “if we failed to vote in the right candidates.”

Similarly, he highlighted other criteria for the person who would succeed him, saying he must be such that would continue with his administration’s reform programmes.
“I want to appeal to our members (of the PDP) that are here to be firm and committed to the party. We still have a lot to do. The reforms we embarked on in our economy are still progressing.
“The person that left the job before my predecessor told some people that three persons including myself would not leave prison alive. It was not by my power or my wisdom, or the juju that I had or my goodness that made me to live the prison alive. It was God’s wish”.

He also seized the event to yet again dispel the festering rumour that the PDP’s presidential candidate, Governor Umar Musa Yar’Adua of Katsina State has one kidney and as such, unhealthy for the post.
“Can somebody with one kidney play squash? They also said that he is Al-Qaeda (that he is a religious fanatic). This is not so. He is a liberal Muslim. He fears nobody,” said Obasanjo.
Describing the choice of Yar'Adua as the best for the country, the President assured that he would continue the reforms his government started.

On the belief that Yar’Adua would ‘deal with him’ by the time he becomes President, Obasanjo said: “ I know myself. As soon as I hand over power to him, I will return to my base in Ota. I will not interfere with the way he runs the country. I know that it is only a kingmaker that disrespects a king that the monarch deals with. I know my bounds as a national leader and as a former president. I will not interfere with the way he will run the country”.

Obasanjo who went into praise worship assured that the next elections would be peaceful and that Nigerians would get a leader who would continue to cater for their needs.
He also spoke on why he endorsed Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, for second term.
His words: “Nobody is perfect. Or is there anyone that is perfect here? If there is such a person, he or she should raise his or her hand. Daniel may have his own weaknesses, but such can be corrected”.
He told the gathering that he once told Daniel on the essence of being humble, rationalizing criticisms against the second coming of the governor with an adage, “the devil we know is better than the angel we don’t know. I know Daniel very well, rather than the angel that I don’t know.”

Defending his economic policies, which have come under flak, Obasanjo said: “In 1979 when I handed over, Nigeria was the 48th biggest economy in the world. Do you know the position we were when I came back in 1999? We were 173.

“Now we want to be among the 20 leading economy in the world by the year 2020. This can’t be possible if those who are going to succeed us are rogues. We don’t want those people I once referred to as Alliance for Corruption,” an apparently enthralled President told his audience.
Meanwhile, the Director of Youth Organisation in the campaign office of Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Timi Frank is reported to have been arrested by men of the State Security Service (SSS).

A statement issued by the Atiku campaign office Saturday said Frank was arrested in front of the home of former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi in Benin after Atiku’s campaign rally in the ancient city on Friday.

Although the report could not be independently verified as at press time, the Atiku campaign office said he was arrested and taken to Abuja for reasons yet to be made known to them.

A more famous example of using a half dead man for politics was Leonid Brezhnev in USSR. A russian told me how Brezhnev pulled out his London speech in India. He apparently started with "Dear Mrs Thatcher....." It wasn't clear if Mrs Ghandi had to hear the entire London speech.

This man is truly evil!!!! Chei!! He is trying to Kill the Man then use it as an "Act of God" to postpone the Election.

Nice One!

IG you are "SPOT ON"!

This is from Sahara Reports on this.....

quote:
A medical source who was with Governor Umaru Yar’Adua yesterday said Obasanjo must have been keeping Yar’ardua in the grueling presidential race in order to let him die campaigning perhaps to enable him extend his tenure indefinitely, because according to him, every medical advice given to the president on Yar’Adua points to the fact that he cannot withstand any rigorous campaign workload required of a national presidential candidate.

The current Electoral Act of 2006 is explicit about what will happen to the transition program if a presidential candidate dies.

Section 37 (1) of the 2006 Electoral Act grants the Independent National Electoral Commission the power to postpone elections indefinitely in case of death of one of the Presidential candidates.

The section reads: "If after the time for the delivery of nomination paper and before the commencement of the poll, a nominated candidate dies, the Chief National Electoral Commissioner or the Resident Electoral Commissioner shall, being satisfied of the fact of the death, countermand the poll in which the deceased candidate was to participate and the Commission shall appoint some other convenient date for the election.”

The Electoral Act of 2006 was enacted into law during the height of the Anti-Third term debate, it did not state for how long INEC may postpone general elections in the case of the death of a Presidential candidate.

The Times of Nigeria has been informed by sources in the Presidency that the Presidential candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Yar'Adua has died. Government officials are unwilling to confirm the report publicly but have told us privately that the Governor of Katsina state has died. "Yes, he is dead." the source said.
President Olusegun Obasanjo and party leaders are said to currently be in a meeting in Abuja over this development.

Yar’Adua was evacuated to Germany for medical attention yesterday after collapsing and suffering from what a source said was “multiple organ failure.”

This is a developing story. We will update it as additional information become available

The BBC claims to have spoken to him in Germany.

But it is not clear if that was before or after some other reports claiming he has died.

This Times of Nigeria story is one such claiming he has died.

Whether Yaradua dies or not, Nigeria is about to teach the so called south-south a very important lesson. Lets see if a vice presidential candidate or vice president from south-south can actually become a presidential candidate or president!

Yar’Adua returns on Sunday: Says he will still contest - Speaks with Obasanjo, Saraki on phone
From Ibrahim Hassan, Idowu Samuel, Akin Durodola, Abdul Musediq, Yinka Olukoya and Yekini Jimoh - 08.03.2007

Tribune: http://www.tribune.com.ng/08032007/news/news1.html

PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Umar Yar’Adua, who was flown to a German hospital on Tuesday, has declared that he was well and would return to Nigeria on Sunday to continue his preparations for the April polls.

Speaking with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) yesterday, he stated that reports that he collapsed and was rushed to Germany were “not true”, adding that he would return home at the weekend.

He was also reported to have spoken on the phone with President Olusegun Obasanjo and some other prominent Nigerians including a governor yesterday.

Yar’Adua admitted that he actually suffered from breathlessness and had to take his doctor’s advice to have a thorough medical check-up abroad.

“I don’t think a human being has control over his health or ill-health, life or death, and therefore, people should not make conclusions on any other human being,” he told the BBC.

“As a Muslim, death is inevitable; sickness is a different kettle of fish, in toto.

“Insha Allah, I shall return to Nigeria on Sunday to carry on with the presidential campaign.

“There have been various speculations all the time since 2000 surrounding my health and all these were not true,” Yar’Adua added.

The PDP National Secretary, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, reacted to the rumoured death of Yar’Adua, stating that the presidential candidate had spoken with President Obasanjo from Germany.

Maduekwe on Wednesday said Yar’Adua spoke with the president at about 2.00 pm, assuring him of the soundness of his health.

Maduekwe had on Tuesday issued a press statement that Yar’Adua had to travel abroad for medical treatment making it impossible for him to be at the PDP governorship campaign rally in Lagos.

Governor Yar’Adua also spoke with his Kwara State counterpart, Dr. Bukola Saraki, at Pategi at about 3.00 p.m. at the palace of the Etsu of Pategi.

In its reaction, the Atiku campaign organisation stated that, “lovers of Nigeria’s democracy will pray for his quick recovery. Those who are spreading the rumour of his death are those who don’t wish Nigeria well.

“It is unfortunate those who are supposed to be sponsors of Yar’Adua for the presidency are those spreading the rumour of his death, hoping to benefit to achieve tenure elongation. It is most tragic that they will wish to sacrifice human lives for tenure elongation.

“We pray that God will give Yar’Adua quick recovery and deliver Nigeria from the hands of tenure elongation mongers.”

OBJ curses rumour mongers
Abdul Musediq and Yinka Olukoya, Abeokuta - 08.03.2007

PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, yesterday rained curses on rumour mongers on the death of Alhaji Musa Yar’Adua, saying they were devil descendants.

Speaking after the recuperating Yar’Adua had spoken with the party supporters during a rally at the MKO Abiola Stadium, the president said only children of devil and abnormal human beings could peddle such wicked rumour.

He assured that the medical case of the presidential candidate was not as serious as they were making the people to believe.

“His case is not anything serious, though only God knows who would die but let me tell you those who were spreading the rumour also said that I have died in Ghana, this kind of rumour only gives longevity to the victims for those who know.

“The devilish people, who claimed to be children of God, even said that it was because I knew Umaru would die within one year, that’s why I asked him to pick the presidential ticket. How can a normal human being say this, they are devil descendants,” Obasanjo stressed.
