OBJ Vows: Atiku Will Be Disqualified, Even If The Heavens Fall
Posted by admin on 2007/3/6 15:42:39
The odds against Vice President Atiku Abubakar contesting the 19 April presidential polls are certainly mounting by the day as President Olusegun Obasanjo has vowed to do everything possible to ensure his disqualification from participating in the elections. Impeccable sources in the top hierarchy of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) told P.M.News this morning that Baba, as Obasanjo is fondly called, made the vow at Akure, Ondo State, during the last zonal presidential campaign rally of the party.

Obasanjo, it was learnt, told leaders of the party and confidants that even if the heavens fell, he would ensure that Atiku does not contest the 19 April presidential election. The president was said to have assured those present that he would employ everything possible to ensure that Atiku was disqualified. Obasanjo’s decision to stop Atiku at all costs might not be unconnected with the successful flag off of Atiku’s presidential campaign in Kano which witnessed a mammoth crowd.

The large crowd, which witnessed the flag off of Atiku’s campaign in Kano, was said to be the largest in recent times since the demise of Alhaji Aminu Kano leader of Talakawas, who used to draw massive crowds during his political campaign rallies in the city. Some PDP chieftains in akure who heard about the large turn out of people at Kano were said to have expressed fears that if nothing was done to stop Atiku, he could spoil the fun for the party during the 19 April presidential polls. Obasanjo, it was gathered, told his listeners to forget about Atiku contesting the polls, adding that even if the heavens would fall he would ensure that Atiku was prevented from standing for election.

Investigations by P.M.News revealed that apart from Obasanjo’s open vow to ensure the disqualification of Atiku, the presidency has also mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which had just verified the credentials of all presidential candidates, to ensure that it did not clear Atiku for the elections. INEC at the weekend stated that it was seeking legal advice, on the candidature of Atiku following the report of his indictment on the PTDF scandal submitted to it and a petition written against him by the PDP leadership seeking his disqualification.

Apart from this, both Atiku and the federal government are now at the Appeal Court over the latter’s decision to declare the VP’s seat vacant. The suit, which was sent to the Supreme Court, was returned to the Appeal Court for trial by the apex court on 25 January. The federal government has also dragged Atiku before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, seeking his prosecution following his indictment on the PTDF by the EFCC and an administrative panel of inquiry set up by the government.

Come May 29, Obasanjo will lose control of both the PDP and Aso Rock. Then, his many enemies will pick him apart to the delight of all BiafraNigerians.
