Gentlemen, One of the evils of marring more than one wife. I have always wondered why in Igboland, the people of Imo State from Aba to Mbano love to marry more than one wife like the Hausa ans Yoroba. biafra and Meb, I bet you all got you wives in 9ija plus including the one for yankee land. Na wa for una o.

Enwerem’s Children Fight At His Burial
Posted To The Web: Monday, October 01, 2007 - Joe Nwachukwu, Owerri

The rift between two wives of the late President of the Senate, Chief Evan Enwerem, was blown open when children of the two wives engaged in a physical combat during the burial of the politician on Friday.

The people, who escorted the corpse from Owerri to Atta in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, the deceased’s country home, became embarrassed by the attitude of the children before the guests at the burial.

The trouble started when one of Enwerem’s wives was prevented from seeing his corpse at the lying-in-state. Her children violently resisted the action.

This led to a physical confrontation between the children of the two wives in the presence of guests. Saturday Tribune correspondent in Owerri, the Imo State capital, who went to Atta for the coverage of the burial, reported that the guests had to intervene to stop the fight that ensued.

Owing to this, the arrival of the corpse for the church service at St Paul’s Anglican Church, where the Bishop of Owerri, the Rt.Rev.Cyril Okorocha, later presided, was delayed.

In his sermon, Okorocha condemned the action of the wives and the children in the glare of the visitors.

I honestly agreed that marrying more than one wife is looking for trouble. It is a shame that the offspings of such an honourable man should participate in such a disgracefull act thereby tanishing his name. Chief Evens Enwerem is an honourable man to the end and I'm sure it's not all his children that participated in that fracas at his burial. But those who did should definitely be ashamed of themselves including their mothers. SHAME ON THEM ALL. May the soul of the dearly departed through the mercy of God rest in peace

The problem with polygamy has reflected in Abiola and Enweram family. One of Africa's biggest problem is the enslavement of women and marriage of more than one wife. Enwerem was an indication that polygamy should be criminalized in Nigeria. The problem in the Ewerem family was between one faction of the family against another.
