Woman LG boss in N300m fraud - Remanded in prison custody
Eric Ikhilae, Lagos - 21.11.2007

Immediate past Chairman, Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Mrs. Rita Ada Okorafor, was ordered to be remanded in prison by a Federal High Court, Lagos, following her arraignment over alleged illegal conversion of the council’s fund estimated at over N300 million.

Mrs. Okorafor was arraigned with the council’s treasurer, Mr. Chukwuemeka Opara, on a 48-count charge brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mrs. Okorafor was specifically accused of illegally withdrawing funds estimated at over N237.7million from the council’s account, from which she allegedly diverted about N137.4 million into her personal account (no: 6024902687) at the Owerri branch of a bank.

She was also said to have made false declaration of her assets to the EFCC.

The treasurer was accused of colluding with his former boss to forge about nine cheques of the said bank valued at over N34million, which they paid to four individuals.

Their alleged offences are said to be punishable under Section 14(1) of Nigeria ’s Money Laundering Act 2004 and the Miscellaneous Offences Act of 1984 as amended by Act 62 of 1999.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges. Their counsel later informed the court that they had filed applications for bail.

I I was of the opinion that the women folks will be the savior of our faterland when they finally get the chance.

I am gobsmacked at what I've just read. When alot of people are dying of hunger and schools have no amenities and roads are unusable, these two have the guts and bottle to do what they did. They should not only be reminded, but the keys to their cells thrown into the Urashi river. As for the council woman, she is and would remain a disgrace to the womanhood. I am truly ashame that it's happened in my home state, I'm sure they had the blood of thieves in them. This would show that greediness would do nobody any good.

Folks,
The last OBJ"S government turned every Nigerian who held public office to a thief. Nigeria is a country where people have thrown their conscience over board, men and women.
The semi-illitirate woman Etteh appointed speaker of the house, began stealing as soon as she took office.
There are no more suprises regard stealing public funds in nigeria. It has become a national way of life and shame. These few people who are being exposed is a tip on the iceberg. The amount of dollars that have accrued to federal, state, and local governments since 1999 is so huge and yet the country is shamefully under developed.
An average Nigerian citizens look like people who live in Darfur and other war zones of the world, because Nigerian leaders failed them woefully.

Do you wonder when I told finance minister Usman where to go, on reading that despite the fact nigeria is rich in mineral resources, they had their debts cleared out. But unshamingly the minister was talking of borrowing another $3bn from the world bank and some other banks including the Arab bank that was responsible for the fracas the late Abacha and one of the emirs in the north, I think it was the emir of Sokoto who were bent on turning nigeria into an Islamic state. You see the emir pocketed the money they gave him for that mission and Sani wanted a cut. Now the country is borrowing money from them and who knows where that money will finish. It's a shame and national disgrace. Even people in Darfur looks better than some of the people I know whose photos I saw recently.
