They parked their loot into their own vehicles and headed for Oji River where they killed three policemen and a petrol station attendant.
My People, one of the police killed is a first cousin of mine. I got the call Wednesday morning as I arrived to work. This is very devastating to my family as this fine police man left behind children that I hope against hope that the Nigerian Police will take over their training. I just find it hard to accept that my small hometown Oji River is becoming this dangerous. May the good lord be with the soul of my cousin and the rest of the killed police officers? May God give us the heart and power to forge on even at this very dark time in my family’s life?

Police shot dead three armed robbers and wounded a dozen others during a gun battle in a bank raid in Lagos on Thursday. Six accomplices were arrested with gunshot wounds. Robbers had attacked two bullion vans on Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on Wednesday, leaving three people dead at the end of an operation that lasted for one hour. The attack in Lagos was carried out on an old generation bank at Pako bus stop in the Dopemu area about 11.30 p.m. The robbers came in three vehicles – a Volkswagen Golf (marked LAGOS EL 336 LSR), Volvo Car, and Volkswagen Faragon bus. Officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and mobile policemen (led by the Commander of Area ‘G’ Headquarters in Ogba, Mobolaji Odesanya) swooped on the bandits who numbered 18 and were armed with sophisticated weapons. Members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) also played an active role in foiling the robbery. They assisted the police to comb every nook and cranny, culminating in the arrest of the gang leader who hid in an empty water tank on top of a building. The robbers had already loaded a Ghana-Must-Go bag with cash, and were about loading a second when the police officers arrived with superior fire power, which made the thieves to take cover in the neighbourhood. Some N4,417,000 stolen from the vault of the bank was recovered – alongside four AK47 assault rifles, one LAR rifle, one pump action rifle, one Volkswagen Golf car, one Toyota Camry (marked in a foreign number), and one Volkswagen Faragon bus. Two of the rifles were said to belong to the police. Police Commissioner, Mohammed Abubakar, narrated that “we got a distress call that a bank was being robbed at Dopemu. We mobilised men of Special Anti-robbery Squad to reinforce RRS men who were on the ground with men from Area G and from Dopemu Police Division, to block the robbers’ escape. In the process we gunned down two and arrested three.” It was learnt that an Army officer was killed during the cross fire. Abubakar thanked members of the public for their co-operation in tracking down the robbers, especially for providing information without which the police would have achieved nothing. He has deployed detectives to search the area, particularly hospitals, for the other members of the gang who may still be in hiding. The incident in Enugu State occurred around the Umumba axis of the expressway, a hot spot for robberies. The bullion vans were travelling from Enugu to Awka when they were intercepted by the heavily armed robbers who dressed in Army and police uniforms. The robbers moved in three Mitsubishi buses, and trailed the vans to Umumba where they opened fire on them. Some occupants of the vans, including the drivers and security men, escaped with gunshot wounds. An unconfirmed report said one of them later died of bleeding. It was learnt that the robbers broke into the safe of one bullion van to steal money. They set the other on fire after failing to break into its safe. They parked their loot into their own vehicles and headed for Oji River where they killed three policemen and a petrol station attendant. The killing of the policemen created pandemonium as residents of the area scampered for safety amid staccato gunfire from the rampaging robbers. Attempts to get Police Public Relations Officer, Mike Abattam, to comment on the incident were not successful.

Please, accept my condolences. While I am reluctant to accept any pronouncements of the BiafraNigerian Police Force, I have to accept that the death of your cousin is a tremendous personal blow to you.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your relative. You must realize that many here have long given up on the nigerian way including its incompetent awusa/yooroba managed institutions. I typically ignore news about nigerian politics, police and all the crap that have no direct bearing on Biafra; actually the best way to hide something from me is to mention it alongside wiht nigeria. So you can understand why I reacted to your post by ignoring it altogether. Please accept my sympathy for the loss of a Biafran serving the incompetent nigerian state. It was nott worth it.

They haven't paid Odumegwu Ojukwu nearly enough for the superb services he provided in the '60s before nigeria became anything-goes filed state under incompetent, fraudulent awusa/yoroba rulers. Remember the so-called pension was for services the generation of Igbo before the war rendered to secure independence now thoroughly abused by awusa/yoroba corruption or to build a public service and military that gave hope that black people may be in a position to compete at the global level after all. Remember there was a question at the time whether it was wise to grant independence to a race that has shown no ability to understand modern technology well enough to build a society based on it. The Igbo of the '60s led the crusade to put black people on the can-do map, whether with a proper management of nigeria that saw social services functioning at a level never seen since then or a technological revolution Odumegwu Ojukwu pioneered during Biafra that got the attention of world powers, helping to derail Biafra. Of course, we have since 1967 gone back to the Stone Age with awusa/yoroba takeover of the administration of nigeria.
In any case, the pension change you speak of is money originally belonging to Biafra, but currently being stolen by the british-backed nigerian occupation force. BTW why is awusa/yoroba rulers of nigeria so incapable of baking a pie bigger than Biafran oil economy?

Please accept my comfort. One can only imagine how you and your extended family feel at this sore times. Ndo!

Bboyz, quit it you almost had me laughing until I realize how serious the issue is. In my opinion Ikemba's acceptance of whatever gratuity was irreversible blunder. By accepting that pension he in essence reverted to a concept – Nigeria that he fought against or some to that effect. What would he be doing with such pittance at his age? Ojukwu was wrong!

Also I will urge not hope for the Nigeria Police and their Bosses to do anything for the poor Children your cousin left behind. You and the rest of your family may have to step in and give a helping hand. Unfortunately that is the reality in that country raped by Obasanjo and his cohorts.

Bababoyz your insults distract from important discussion. I have not heard you for one day condem Obasanjo for all the rape has committed against Nigerians literally and substantially.

A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE AND A RELATIVE TO THE CHIEF WHO IS FROM A VILLAGE IN ITEM IS ANOTHER VICTIM OF SENSELESS KILLING BY NIGERIAN ARMED ROBBERS PROXIMATED BY THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT.
READ ON
Police chief killed in Lagos Wednesday, April 2, 2008 An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), attached to Force Criminal Investigations Department Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, has been shot dead by people suspected to be assassins.
John Chukwu, who was killed on Saturday at his Bank Shonibare estate in Ojodu area of Ikeja, Lagos at about 9p.m was confirmed dead minutes after he was shot by a gang of five men. Daily Sun gathered that his killers did not remove even a pin from the house, fueling suspicions that they might have been assassins. Daily Sun gathered that when the bandits arrived, they quickly went and put off the generator powering electricity in the house. The victim was said to have gone to see what led to the generator going off, though, against the advice of his children and wife who told him not to go out. As soon as he opened the door of his flat and went towards where the generator was, he was accosted by two men as he questioned their presence in the premises at that particular time. A source said as he was still exchanging words with the assassins, his third son, Chinedu peeped through the window and saw the armed men and raised alarmed. His wife and other children were said to have joined, to raise alarm. “And that was when they shot him on back of his shoulder,” the our source said. The bandits, Daily Sun gathered stormed out after shooting the police chief. He was, however, rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead by doctors and his body subsequently deposited at the Air Force hospital morgue Ikeja. Meanwhile, some police sources are linking his death to the investigation of a fraud case he is handling in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. Chukwu, who just returned from where he led other officers to attend course ‘A’ in Jos, Plateau State, was said to have received threat calls from the suspects who he had interviewed earlier. Confirming the incident, the Force CID, Public Relations Officer, Mr. Friday Archibong, said the police have commenced investigations into the killing. According to him, a team attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Adeniji Adele had swung into action.
