Delegates to the National Political Reforms Conference (NPRC) from the six South-south states yesterday said they are finally withdrawing from the national dialogue following the non-resolution of the deadlock over enhanced derivation. Their withdrawal has, however, cast doubts over the resumption plenary by the conference today.
The South-south gave a historical background for their request and noted that in the 1960 and 1963 constitutions, there were provision for 50 per cent of all accruable income from national resources to be paid to the region in which resources are located. They added that the gradual erosion of that arrangement began in 1966 when the then federal military government unilaterally slashed regional share of derivation on the excuse that it needed fund to prosecute the civil war. It is clear from the above data that from 1967 to date, the welfare of the Niger Delta people have been sacrificed in the sustainance of Nigerian federation,â?? they stated. The South-south decided to withdraw after the talks to break the deadlock over enhanced derivation and tenure of the president and governors at the conference collapsed yesterday when the meeting of Leaders of State Delegations could not take a decisive position on the issue. The delegates of the South-south geo-political zone June 14 walked out and eventually withdrew from the national conference citing irregularities in the adoption of the Prof. Joe Irukwu-led Committee of Leaders, especially as it relates to 17% derivation. Also, South-east delegates walked out on account of the procedure in adopting the two terms of four years for federal and state executives. A meeting of Leaders of State Delegations, which also had in attendance members of the Business Committee, could not break the deadlock over enhanced derivation and tenure of the president and governors. Ogun State delegate and former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Taiwo Alimi told journalists shortly after the meeting ended at about 10.30p.m. that the leaders resolved to incorporate 17% and 25%, as it concerns the issue of derivation in its report to the conference and the government.

In 21st century Nigeria, it is very sad that a group of people had to go and negotiate their rights from a parasitic, lazy slave masters. This exploitation of man by man must stop. Nigeria must say enough is enough to Hausa/Fulani.
Is there anyone out there who must tell each and everyone of us, how much of our income to contribute to a charity organization to be handed out to Hausa/Fulani?

Does it not amount to double speak when the crazed Islamist of the sharia states continue to feed off the infidels oils well?
When they turned their states into Sharia states no one threatened hells fury, now that the south south want a fair share of what rightfully belongs to them, it is now one Nijeria (hausa accent), it is now we must follow the constitution. hey did our constitution not say we are a secular country?
from census to ID card, the north has always opposed progressive ideas.
The hand writing is on the wall. Things must surely fall apart so the center can no longer hold.
