LEADER of the Niger Delta People Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Dokubo Asari, was yesterday arrested by the Police in Port Harcourt as a fallout of last Thursday’s arrest, in London, of Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State for money laundering.
-------------------------------------------------

How come the actions of the Nigerian state (those who feel the country is exclusively theirs), can easily be predicted. If I was the people at William Hill i could easily have placed very low odds on the reckless federal government of Nigeria to at the beckon of Shell and so-called 'national interest' pounce on the people of the Niger Delta for daring to if only verbally threaten Shell's operations in their land.

Obasanjo just like the other military governments of Nigeria is as usual bent on exterminating the voices of the people of the Delta, to enable the oppressive Nigerian nation run riot in the oil rich Delta without any challenge. If it were possible for 'Nigeria' to wipe out the people of the Delta and reduce the place to that devoid of any indigenous people, and therefore create a haven for reckless operators like Shell, Chevron, Agip etc, it would have done it by now. However i don't think this is not the long term agenda of Nigeria.

The Ijaws rightfully aired their views on what they saw as some sort of witch-hunt by Obasanjo and his cohorts. They haven't raised a hand yet. Obasanjo however, has chosen to deliberately escalate the whole situation by arresting Asari Dokumbo. Obasanjo, if he was ever good as a soldier should know that if the Ijaws really wants to destabilise the area, and as such the country, Asari's arrest will if anything strenghten instead of weakening their resolve.

I don't think Obasanjo is stupid and daft enough not to know the repercussions of his draconic actions. I sense he is well aware of the situation, and the arrest of Asari is a machiavelic and diabolic plot to provoke the Ijaws and hopefully the entire people of the Niger Delta to arms resistance, so that he can let the federal military mad-dogs loose on them once and for all.

In addition, he could then brand any resisting Deltan minority a terrorist and conveniently turn away the attention of the already (oil-blinded) conniving western world from the atrocities he intends visiting on the people. I also think that the governments in London and Washington would rather listen to the voices of their countrymen in Shell and Chevron-Texaco which will corroborate the federal govt's version of happenings, than some down-trodden Ijaw, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ogoni, Isoko or ibo man crying out loud for his life!

One thing Obasanjo must have failed to realise is the fact that he could kill people, but he cannot kill their aspirations. He just might have unknowingly sown the seed of liberation that the people of the Delta have for so long yearn for. One thing for sure is that, he can't predict or be so sure of the end result of his diabolic plots. The man should not forget that while your interests could be permanent in international politics, your friends necessarily aren't. The foreign oil-soaked hands that might be encouraging and pushing him right now could be the ones that will slap him in the face when the chips are down.

As for the people of the Delta, it is time to be prepared to chop off the hands of the oppressors.... the fists of the DEVIL!
