Court nullifies Ladoja’s impeachment as Oyo State governor
By Paul Ohia

The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan has nullified the impeachment of Governor Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja of Oyo state stating that the process followed was unconstitutional.

Ladoja was removed by the state House of Assembly on January 12, this year for alleged corruption and abuse of office after a prolonged battle with an alleged political godfather in the state, Chief Lamidi Adedoja. He was replaced by his deputy, Adebayo Alao-Akala.

After a federal appeals court ruling presided over by Justice Olagoke Ige had upheld the impeachment, Ladoja and his supporters went to the federal appeals court.

Prior to Ige's ruling, the Impeachment process had been declared illegal by Justice Bolaji Yusuf who later handed off the case. The suit was later transfered to Justice Moshood Abass who ruled that he will start the case afresh.

Dissatified with Justice Abass’ ruling, the applicant appealed to the Federal Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan seeking the order to quash Justice Ige's ruling.

Ladoja became governor of Oyo State on May 29, 2003. He is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP).

.......not bad from the order of the court; it shows a sense of hope to Nigerians who will otherwise resort to killing rather than go through the due process. I hope the HausaFulani are learning that the law of the jungle once a riot is gradually diminishing. But this is a short victory for the governor, the DA's will have to refile the case.
