Greatest Moments in Sports

All:
This thread is dedicated to the greatest moments in sports. “Greatest” depends, of course, on your opinion. Consider the following:

I have many friends from Haiti. One of my Haitian friends pointed me to the following link. It is said to be the greatest moment in Haitian soccer history. The event was the 1974 World Cup, and the act was a goal scored by Haiti against Italy. Haiti went on to lose the game. But, haitians are not letting their loss get in the way. Most Haitians still see the scoring of that fantastic goal as the greatest moment in their soccer history. See, Haiti Scores against Italy. Enjoy

For some reason, the link is not working. But, you get the gist.

When Mehalla (Egypt) saw Wahala at Enugu Sports Stadium. I was a young school boy then and that was my biggest and first sport show that I can still remember. The city was alife, their was an Osadebe son to follow etc. I think it must have been in 1976/1977 when the Rangers Ruled.

Ednut, the Rangers of that era would beat any team in today's World Cup. Chairman Christian Chukwu, goalkeeper Emmanuel Okala, Kenneth Ilodigwe, Christian Madu, Emeka Onyedika, Dominic Ezeani, Stanley Okoronkwo, Nwabueze Nwankwo (the longest thrower), Ogidi Ibeabuchi, Dr. John Egbonu, and many others. A great squad, indeed.

Ifeanyi:

You really know what was cooking, that squad was also the Academicals, you left out Godwin Ogbueze, that thrashed all the Nigerian teams to win the championship right after the Biafran war.

They dominated Nigerian football all through the decade of the seventies.

ICO if that squad can beat any team today in the world cup, does it mean that the standard has fallen?

Good question Sokie my brother.

My take on this is that the standard has not fallen and those intimadating, kick-and-follow ex service men will find it hard to cope with the technical and tactical aspects of the game today.

That was why Nigeria never got anywhere with them in those years as they lacked tactical awareness which their opponents had to some extent.

Some of the teams that took Nigeria to the cleaners in those years now boast of better teams and if Rangers could not cope with the ancient teams, tell me how you think they can deal with the scientific soccer a.k.a total football that is now common place.

I'm sure Christain Chukwu will tell you that today's Rangers is better than the one he'd captained.

Ohafia:
Has any team in global soccer surpassed Pele's Brazil Santos in terms of achievements in what was accomplished in Pele's era? So too, one would say of Chukwu's era in Nigeria football. Remember they beat Germany's Division One team 3-1, neverminding they had no international exposure.
