Biafran Athlete Represents US in Hungary

Biafran Athlete, Crystal Tochi Anyanwu.

quote:

Crystal is the first out of her parents' four daughters. She has inspired all the girls in the Anyanwu family into high speed running. Track & Field events have taken over the Anyanwu's extra curricular activities. All four Anyanwu daughters are mid distance runners. They all perform very well in the 400, 800 and 1500 meters events. Incredibly, all four girls maintain above 3.5 GPA in school.

Crystal started running Track & Field events last year as a High School freshman. Amazingly she swept the Regional and the State of Maryland Championships in the 800 meters... open event with a time of 2.17 for both events. She led her school relay team to the 2000 Penn Relay competition. This year as a sophomore, she has reclaimed all her State titles. She is the first freshman to win 800 meters in the State of Maryland. At the end of last year’s school meet section, so many Track & Field Clubs in the State of Maryland started calling her family. She was advised by her school coach to join a Club if she is interested in Junior Olympics. She did and won her first National Bronze medal in 800 meters last year at the age of 14 with a time of 2min,13sec.

The picture above is of Crystal Tochi Anyanwu in Debrecan, Hungary for her first World appearance, where she is representing the US in the World Youth Championships. While Crystal Tochi Anyanwu is in Debrecan, Hungary, her two immediate younger sisters (Patricia Chisom and Doris Kelechi Anyanwu) will be competing for semi-finals in Atlanta Ga. For the Junior Olympics this weekend (July 13th-16th). If her younger sisters qualify individually in Atlanta, all the girls will compete in Sacramento California in (July 23-27) during the 2001 USA track and Field (USATF) Junior Olympics. Already, Crystal has qualified by default to compete in Sacramento since she won 3rd place in 800 meters last year in the Junior Olympics.

Very Well done my sister!
