I-PAC COMMENDS THE 9 ILLUSTROUS IGBO GOVERNORSHIP ASPIRANTS, AND REJECTS THE UNWARRANTED ATTACKS ON THEM BY CERTAIN IGBO GROUPS.
We congratulate the 9 Igbo sons and daughters of Anambra and Enugu origin who have transcended tribe to reach out across the Niger and support Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo instead of Alex Ekwueme who is Igbo. We wish to make it clear that there are many Igbo candidates running for the office of president of Nigeria. It is our position that none of those candidates has earned the privilege to call himself "the Igbo candidate." In any event, every Igbo person, if he wishes, should be free to support any of the Igbo candidates, no candidates at all, or a candidate from outside Igboland.
Alex Ekwueme has never been an Igboist and is unlikely to become one in his old age. We are a republican people, and it has long been our maxim that 1) Igbo enewe Eze, 2) we are a republican people, and 3) Nd'Igbo do not stand in one spot to watch the masquerade; anyi anaghi ano ofu ebe e kiri nmaghu.
For those reasons, we congratulate and commend the nine Igbo governorship aspirants from Anambra and Enugu states for their foresight and vision. Our salute goes to Dr. Raymond Okechukwu Odunze, Mr. Jerry Sonny Ugokwe, Chudi Offodile, Phillip Obiora Agbasi, Ikechukwu Abana, Mr. Chukwuemeka Okeke, Mrs Chika Ibeneme, Dr Christ Ngige, and Mr. Benson Nnamdi Nnoruka. You are doing today the very same thing that Alex Ekwueme taught Nd'Igbo during his NPN days when he raised the hand of Shagari in Enugu while the Owele of Onitsha was a candidate for president. Ekene diri unu.
Ekwueme himself declared support for Obasanjo following the former's defeat in the Jos primaries of the last election. Our people have a lot of problems, and this is not the time to put all of the Igbo eggs in the irresolute and unprincipled Ekwueme basket. When Obasanjo is re-elected we need to have Igbo people that he can work with. You who are bold to come out and support him today are the future of Nigeria. You are de-tribalized and Nigeria needs you to survive.
We urge our Igbo brothers and sisters to keep in mind that we are one. We are one people indivisible. Therefore, they should stop attacking those who reject Alex Ekwueme's ill-advised candidacy in the forthcoming elections. At age 70, the best role for Ekwueme is an advisory one.
