Nnamdi Biafra:

I recognize that this is an advertized "no-holds-barred" forum, but I shall not dignify your Igbo tirade against me with a similar response.

Adekunle:

May your tribe increase!

As you rightly pointed out, my Internet-accounts "unmasking" proclivities are well known, and are at least 7-years old for those who know me. I make no bones about it. The funny thing was that when I did the recent unmasking at Egbeomo.com over the Atlanta meeting, many on BiafraNigeriaWorld.com were clapping. I hope that they don't start to curse simply because I did it to one of them who in fact assisted tremendously in that unmasking: I got lucky! Such cursing would be hypocritical.

Finally, we may have to leave Nnamdi Biafra to write in Igbo - his Igbo writing is certainly better than his English writing, which gives me a headache! Maybe he writes like that when he is angry?

Best wishes, as we return to BiafraNigerian Language classes and stop all these side-show shenanigans. I will be coming up with more translations within the next week or so.

Adekunle,

You said, "I thought you Ibos were "superior" to everybody in Nigeria. How come you don't know how to write correct English?"

Listen, if you have gotten intoxicated with with the long leash given to Aluko and are deluding yourself at using it to take a cheeky swipe at Igbos, I'll make sure you realize that it is a fatal mistake.
You've not be known to make any tangible sense on this board neither do you come up as one with clear and concise English writing skills. It's only a Mr simpleton like you that can run away with typographical errors which you managed to tax your mind(?) to discover.

This is a language thread. Your two paltry entries have contributed nothing to it. Do something about the topic at hand or get outta here!

BTW, you are eternally inferior. If you don't like it, start a thread to challenge it.

"... run away with typographical errors." ---Amanda Wekson

Amanda, Amanda:
"Typographical errors" Hmmm? So that is what they call it these days. If you think that Biafra and his anguished English is a mere typographical error, then you are on drugs.

We were doing well here and Dr. Aluko spiced up our lessons with Yoruba/Hausa translations untill some cyber terrorists came into the classroom.

Biafra and Chiboy, go drink ice-cold water. No body blew your covers - and there are at least half a million "Nnamdis" starting with Late Owelle. As it stands, I still cannot know your names - so why the rage? Leave this thread if you wan cause trouble (like I am the Webmaster).

I am the unofficial and self-appointed "prefect" of this classroom:
1. I am interested in learning small Igbo so I can come to Ndigbo neck of the woods and talk to your people about "One Nigeria." Also, I will never forget Owerri.

2. My Yoruba is rusty and I need to communicate effectively with my in-laws (my sister is married to a Yoruba man). I wish there is an Edo translator here (my lovely sister-inlaw na Edo).

3. My Hausa is a almost gone. I intend spreading Christianity in the North as Buhari is interested in spreading Islam to my village. Tit for tat!

By the way, what does "Nnamdi" mean?

Yes, my dear Adenkunle; we've been calling it typographical error since the invention of typewriter. Like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder. Eat your heart out.

Since language is dynamic, what if we get creative in order to keep up with technology, but within the norms of acceptable practices:

1. Words like Webmaster
Would translate: Onyeisi(head/leader)Ekete(basket)
A. Webmaster= Onyeisi ekete

or we could get even more literal and by deduction spiderweb(onyakuru ududo)could be borrowed from to coin:

Dede(master) Onyakuru (web) = Dede-onyakuru
B. Webmaster= Dede-onyakuru

2. Internet= Ekete-oha/ (communal weave) in this case the translation of basket is non literal.

3. Television= Igbe-nnene (looking-box)

4. Radio= Igbe-onanti (where the "n" is pronounced "ng" as in anara) meaning listeners-box.

5. Computer = ???????
All, as you can see this one stumped me. Brick wall all the way!!!

But you all get the gist. Who says we in the diaspora can't contribute a thing or two to language?

Have I stumbled onto something here? will someone with authority on these matters please bail me out before I dig any deeper?

And don't laugh.

All:

I have received alot of mail inquiring about the word "ibika," which I have used a few times in the context "Anything else is ibika." Therefore, I have decided to post an explanation right here in our Language Classes forum.

Owerri Dialect: Ibika
Meaning: A Lie

------------ Uses: --------------

Owerri Dialect: I pega Ibika

  • Meaning: You are lying.

  • Igbo Variant ("Central"): I na atu asi
  • Variant (Owerri): I tu ga ashi

A kinda Igbo language class <bg>.

Once upon a time: "otum nbosi ne nu ibeya"

Jesus told his multitude: "Jesus we gwa – ndi mo ne tili ya udu".

Don't be selfish – "unu ela azu".

    That much I can recall.

Just my Friday greetings - cheers
